Picture this: you're flushed and flailing around post-workout, trying to extract yourself from a sweat-adhered sports bra that has basically become one with your boobs—maybe forever. Or, you're wrestling a typical back-close underwire bra into place after hooking the band in front. So much twisting and squirming! So. Not. Fun. Great news: Those are just a few things you don't have to deal with when wearing the best front-closure bras.

They're also a total game changer for limited mobility issues, whether temporary, like after breast surgery (be it a reduction, augmentation, mastectomy, or otherwise) or an injury, or longterm disabilities and adaptive needs. Even more reasons you'll love the best front closure bras, besides not needing to contort and work up a sweat to put them on? Some styles also have lower necklines which are perfect for plunging tops or dresses, and/or racerback designs that work better (no pesky straps peeking out!) with certain 'fits.

Comfort Revolution Front-Close Shaping Underwire Bra
Now 52% Off

Pros

  • easy snap closure
  • great under tees
  • straps adjust in the front

Cons

  • lower-cut cups may cause spillover

This sleek T-shirt bra closes in front with a quick snap versus fumbling with hook-and-eyes, and its stretch foam cups and silky material stay smooth under clothes. (Especially since the more minimal snap closure is less bulky under clothes than a row of hook and eye closures.) This Amazon bestseller also features ample back coverage and straps that adjust in the front and stay put.

Rave Review: "It fits perfectly and is so figure flattering! I bought my first one back in December 2020 and loved it so much that I got a second one. My first one has not stretched out, faded, or lost any elasticity and it still looks just as nice on now, as it did when I first bought it. In fact, I can’t tell the difference between the one I just bought and the three year old one. It's a great bra—super comfy and it makes me look great. Plus, the Amazon price is fantastic. What more do you need?"

Cons

  • doesn't come in smaller band sizes

Wireless yet structured, this Amazon fave with 26K+ glowing ratings is made from stretchy floral microfiber material that's lightly lined for soft shaping. Plus, it features extra back and side support, and, of course, closes in the front (with a row of hook-and-eye closures).

One Fab Fit T-Shirt Racerback Bra
Now 52% Off

Pros

  • machine washable
  • flirty lace back
  • so smooth!

Cons

  • straps can show with some tops

Some front-close styles have unique details in the back, like the pretty lacy racerback on this bra. Reviewers love that it's got just-enough coverage without being overly padded, too. This racerback bra has an easy-to-use front clasp, is helpfully machine washable, and is even kind of sexy, with its cute, lacy back. It’s got smoothing side panels, lightly lined cups, and soft, adjustable straps, too.

Rave Review: "I’ve had this bra for 6 months now. I’m finally deciding to leave a review because I realized that I reach for this bra over all my other ones! If it were up to me, I’d choose no bra but sometimes you just have to, and I love this one. It’s comfortable, doesn’t cut into me, and I don’t feel constricted in it. It’s not a padded, push-up bra which I personally prefer, but it is lined and thick enough to conceal any pointy nips. I like the front clasp and never had any problems with it. It is a racerback style so if you wear a shirt that’s a bit wide in the neck, you will see the straps. I wear so many diff style tops, ranging from super thin fabric to really thick, and I can say that this bra’s cups don’t show or gape through any shirts...I couldn’t recommend this bra enough. I’m finally ordering another!"

Sizing:32C–42D
Materials:Nylon, Elastane blend
Adaptive Fits Everybody Scoop Bralette

Pros

  • inclusive sizing
  • low cut scoop-neck
  • extra-smooth closures

Cons

  • often sells out

Hook and eye closures on a bra's front may be easier to fasten than on the back, sure, but the downside? They tend to look awkwardly lumpy under all but the baggiest clothes. That's not the case with this smartly designed, scoop-neck bralette, since the closures are smoothly bonded to the v soft, v stretchy material.

Rave Review: "This is also fantastic for any breast surgery! I had a reduction a few months ago, and this bra makes for easy on and off! The smooth soft fabric doesn’t irritate my incisions!"

Bianca Front Closure Sports Bra

Pros

  • snug, supportive feel
  • pocketed cups (for prostheses, breast forms, etc)
  • airy mesh back

Cons

  • limited colorways

AnaOno offers a couple great front-close designs because it specializes in bras for post-opp recovery (or really, any reason the girls might be in a more delicate state, and/or when movement is limited and wrestling with a traditional back-closure bra is a no-go). This sports bra has cute mesh panels for breathability during sweaty workouts, and its crossover back straps are designed to alleviate shoulder and back pain.

Rave Review: "I really love the Bianca bra. I needed a sports bra as I go through the reconstruction process. As a result, I’ve lived in a Bianca bra 24/7 for almost a year. I have 4 of them. They are incredibly comfortable. I tried a couple other bras by AnaOno but nothing compares to the Bianca. No slipping of straps, no riding up, and it's so easy to put on because of the front closure. I highly recommend this bra. Thank you AnaOno! I do wish it came in more than two colors."

Lively Front Close No-Wire Bra

Front Close No-Wire Bra
Now 80% Off

Pros

  • structured yet soft
  • convertible back j-hook
  • straps adjust in front

Cons

  • limited size range, especially band-wise

Okay, how cute is this silky-smooth stunner? You'll love the V-neck friendly, lower-cut neckline and totally wire-free, poke-free design. Not to mention the pretty gold front clasp, mesh-trimmed cups, and fun colors!

Rave Review: "I'm disabled in my left hand (which makes getting dressed difficult) and I'm picky when it comes to fit and style (because of sensory issues), but my love has been won over with one bra! The front close clasp is so easy to use especially since it takes me twice as long to get dressed for a normal day than it would for someone with two working hands. The cups support my girls in such a natural way I don’t feel like they’re being lifted or squished unnecessarily (which I HATE). I’m all for the no wire feature; I can hardly feel it against me. It’s such a comfortable bra. The style is so practical and sexy. I can wear it with a spaghetti strap tank without worrying about the bra showing at the top of the tank."

Full Figure Plus Size MagicLift Front-Closure Posture Back Bra Wirefree

Pros

  • wide size range
  • adjustable closure option
  • full coverage cups

In place of poke-prone wiring to hold up the girls, this popular Glamourise bra (with nearly 14K ratings on Amazon) uses its patented "Magic Lift" inner cushioned band for serious support. Like, "how does this bra not have underwire?!" level of support, especially in combo with its wide straps to help evenly distribute weight.

Rave Review:
"My doctor suggested this type of bra to help with shoulder and neck pain. I bought this one because my first Glamourise bra was exceptionally comfortable and really eased my discomfort."

Pros

  • amazing price
  • breathable cotton blend
  • no scratchy tags

Cons

  • low support especially for bigger boobs

What's better than one affordable, comfy bra? A set of two simple sports bras...for basically the price of a single movie ticket or cocktail. They're stretchy cotton, machine washable, and tagless, AKA the recipe for maximum lounging comfort (they're better suited for low or no impact activities than that HIIT class).

Rave Review: "These bras fit absolutely perfectly and are true to size. The front closures are easy to hook and unhook, and these bras are super comfortable. I literally threw out 4 bras when I received these and I'm not buying any others. Very pleased!"

Front Closure Unlined Underwire Bra

Pros

  • lots of colors
  • comfy wide padded straps
  • smooth, frill-free design

Cons

  • wide straps can be hard to hide under tops

Another posture-enhancing option is this popular full-coverage bra with a discrete front clasp. It has wide, cushioned, pinch-free straps that cross over in the back and are designed to support spinal alignment. It takes some weight, literally, off your achy shoulders and neck. Yes, please!

Rave Review: "This brand is fantastic. The fit and fabric is soft and comfortable. They are also beautiful in case they are seen peeking from beneath your clothing. Awesome bra. I have almost every color."

Front-Close Cotton Boost Plunge Bra

Pros

  • plunging neckline perf for lower-cut looks
  • mostly cotton material is so breathable
  • boning-free yet supportive sides

Cons

  • limited hues

Want major lift and cleavage...and a no-contortion-required front closure? We've got you covered with this airy, slightly stretchy cotton winner: It's got a plunging neckline, ample push-up action, and an easy clasp closure in front. But it's no slouch from behind, either, as some colorways (like this classic white one) have cute lacy crisscrossed straps.

Rave Review: "I bought this bra in purple when I was shopping in-store recently, and I love it so much that I bought another one in black! I prefer front-closing bras anyway, but I love that this is also a push-up plunge bra!"

Knix Catalyst Front Zip Sports Bra

Catalyst Front Zip Sports Bra
Now 32% Off

Pros

  • no uniboob!
  • can wear solo as a bra top, too
  • many cute colors and prints

Cons

  • zipper pull may look bumpy under clothes

This structured, shapely design smoothly zips closed in front (even easier than hook and eye closures!) and has ample, jiggle-free support for high-intensity activity. The well-separated cups avoid the uniboob situation, and they're ventilated for breathability.

Rave Review: "I used to work at a bra store that did sizing and the works, so I'm pretty familiar with whether or not a bra fits well. My bra size is a 38H and I have a very difficult time finding bras that I like and that are comfortable. This bra has changed my world. I took a chance on this company and ordering bras online. It absolutely paid off. I bought this with the intention of doing many hikes. It works fantastic as a sports bra while also being able to wear it during the day as a regular bra. I love a versatile bra. It's very comfortable and very supportive! It's a front closure while also being able to adjust the band at the back. This is unheard of in the bra world!"

Springrose Plunge Front Closure Bra

Plunge Front Closure Bra

Pros

  • straps adjust in front
  • unique adaptive features
  • wide straps that won't dig in

Cons

  • limited colors

Springrose is all about adaptive design and its patent-pending wireless front-close bra is proof of that. For starters, it's got a Velcro and hook and loop closure that might be even more inclusive than zipper or hook and eye options. Plus, it can be put on and worn multiple ways depending on the wearer's needs (or comfort preferences). It comes in a pretty terracotta hue, too, BTW.

Rave Review: "As a disabled occupational therapist, this is a GAME CHANGER for myself as a disabled person and the clients I support. Here’s the TLDR: It has amazing quality and versatility, is built for many body types, and is super comfy! Having multiple options for donning this bra is what makes this the ultimate bra. It’s universal, brings out the natural shape of the breasts, and really packs a punch for confidence. It’s amazing how something like this can make such an impact for disabled people...just stepping into this bra versus fussing with clasps using tremoring hands. It’s obvious some critical, thoughtful creativity went into the design of this bra and whoever wears it will feel the confidence of taking back some independence. Sleek, comfortable, and worth every penny."

FAQs:

breaker line

What is the point of a front closure bra?
Let's face it, there are kind of a lot of movements and motor skills involved with most bras (whether pull-over or back-clasp styles) that can make dressing and undressing difficult. And that's the best-case scenario: It can be downright impossible when you're recovering after a surgery, or have a chronic condition that restricts range of motion and motor skills. Front-closure bras offer much-needed adaptive options, for all sorts of situations where back-close or pull-over bras are a no-go, whether temporary or longterm.

How do you fit a front closure bra?
Sizing tends to be the same for front-close bras as with classic back-close styles; for both, the perfect fit for your bod can ultimately vary from brand to brand. For super-stretchy styles (usually seamless and/or wireless ones), consider sizing down so you don’t end up with sagging or overly stretched-out bra with wear and washing. A too-small cup size–or overall size, if it’s style with XS-XL type sizing instead of cup and band sizing–can cause a front-close style to roll up (annoying!), while a size that’s too big may mean straps slipping off your shoulders and/or extra fabric in the cup area.

How to choose the best front closure bras

line break

Closure Types
Front-close bras are available with a couple different clasp types. Many options have hook-and-eye closures, others get zipped up, and some have both hook-and-eye and zippers for extra security (albeit a bit more bulkiness under clothes); some styles use Velcro to stay closed, too.

Straps
Many front-close bras also have straps that adjust in the front versus the back (which are so much easier, IMO!). Some styles also have padded, cushion-y straps for added comfort. And, if you like options, look for one that has convertible straps.

Material
You’ll find front-closure bras in various materials (i.e. cotton, viscose, nylon, spandex, elastane, etc.) just like you would with back-close styles, and it’s mostly a matter of personal preference. Typically, the less stretch, the more lift and support you’re going to get. And for maximum breathability, opt for a more cotton- or viscose-heavy blend. On the other hand, ultra-stretchy, mainly synthetic materials that veer more sports bra than a traditional underwire bra are a better bet if you’re after a quick-drying and sweat-wicking bra.
